4 weeks - Instructor is Mindie Burgoyne

GOAL - Help participants understand the WordPress platform, and have a blog up and running with at least 2 posts by the end of the course. 


Overview

Course teaches principles of the blogging platform and using a blog to grow a business or organization.  Learn how a blog can help keep in touch with customers, attract attention, start conversations, connect with potential customers, become the personal face of a business / organization and drive traffic to your website. 

4 Online classes over the 4 weeks

FOCUS
Help participants understand the WordPress platform, start a blog, and develop a plan for running a blog as part of a business growth plan.

PLATFORM - Google Hangout - Audio , Video & Screenshare
Using the FREE Google Hangout plug in available via Google+, participants will be able to see and hear the instructor through a video cam, but will also be able to see her screen where she will demonstrate processes. Participants must have an @gmail.com account.

WHAT CAN PARTICIPANTS EXPECT TO GAIN?
Each participant will be able to understand the FREE Wordpress hosted blogging platform, and will have a full blog up and running with at least two posts. This is providing the participant does the work assigned.

Course Outline
The Online Class will be divided into four WEEKS. Each week should take the participant approximately 1 hour of class time (online) and 3 to 4 hours of time during the week to complete that week's assignments. Classes are scheduled on Monday evenings.

Week 1 – Preparing to Blog  - Objectives

  1. Identifying your brand
  2. Understanding blogs as conversations – Finding online conversations
  3. Identifying your niches
  4. Necessary blog tools
  5. Create 5 Customer Profiles

Module 1. Welcome
Module 2. What are blogs
Module 3. Using your blog as a marketing tool
Module 4. Finding Your Niche and Your Voice
Module 5. Three Tools that support blogging – Pixlr, iGoogle, Google Alerts, tracking trends
Module 6. Creating Customer Profiles

Week 2 – The Blogging Platform – Objectives

  1. Understand and use FREE WordPress Platform
  2. Set up a new blog with title, tagline, headshot, profile, categories, widgets
  3. Create A Static Page
  4. Create a Wordpress Menu

Week 3 – More on the Blogging Platform – Objectives

Module 3 – How important is the headline?
Module 4 – Formatting images and text to fit
Module 5 – Creating your first post

Week 4 – Publication Schedule and Drawing Traffic

  1. Draft a publication schedule for posts
  2. Crafting a post so it creates a conversation
  3. Super Easy Posts
  4. Tips for driving traffic to your blog
  5. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for beginners

Module 1 – Publication Schedules – how and why they work in blogging
Module 2 – How to write a post so the reader is inclined to talk back
Module 3 – Numbered lists, Tips, Opinionated Pieces and other super easy blog posts.
Module 4 - Methods and tools for getting people to read your blog
Module 5– SEO Widgets and Guidelines for Optimizing posts for search engines.
Module 6 - Tracking Your Success

Take Away
After completing each the 4 week course, each participant will have a working blog and will have an understanding of the Wordpress platform, photo editing, crafting blog posts, setting up a publishing schedule and engaging with the reading community through the blog he or she has created in class.

Harnessing the Power of Social Media - an overview on how access the tremendous networking and marketing power behind social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Blogging.

Beginning Blogging - Online Class - - Online Class - 4 weeks. Paricipants attend video session (1hour) and spend about 4 hours per week on assignments. At end of 4 weeks participants will have set up a blog on WordPress, edited images, published 2 posts, learned basics of SEO and how to drive traffic to the blog.

Blogging for Business - learning the blogging platform and how a blog (short for web log) can become the personal "face" of your company, keep in touch with customers, attract attention and buzz and be a tool for continually driving traffic to your website.

Social Media for Business Training Session I - An overview of the Big 5 Platforms - Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Blogging, and a strategy for using those platforms to increase business revenues.

Social Media for Business Training Session II - Focus on Facebook and LinkedIn with particular focus on Facebook Pages and LinkeIn Pages, and how to use these platforms to grow a business.

Social Media for Business Training Session III - Focus on Twitter, Blogging and You Tube, how the platforms work and how to integrate them into a marketing / pr plan for business.

Social Media for Retail - Maximizing the power of social media to promote, and grow a retail business - special focus on Facebook and Youtube.

Social Media Bootcamp -  All day session with modules on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and blogging.  People that attend this bootcamp leave with a solid understanding of how to implement a social media strategy.

Social Media Customized Training - Training has been crafted for Human Resource Groups, Military, Tourism, Retail, and Real Estate.  Ask for a customized training for you group.

Social Media  - Private Consultation - one on one.

FEES:  Mindie Burgoyne negotiates the fees for speaking, presenting or putting on seminars with the host of the event.  Typical fee for one 3 hour session is $500 plus travel expenses.  Training for Maryland non-profit business associations with a specific mission to help business grow (e.g. Chambers, Economic Development offices) can be offered at no charge.  Ask about this.

What does the Host need to provide?
- The venue
- Live Internet connection
- White board with markers
- Projector for PowerPoint presentation
- Travel Accommodations if drive is in excess of 2 hours. 

Host also is communication point for registration and payment.  Attendees book directly through the host.
