Haunted Eastern Shore: Ghostly Tales

The Hanging Tree - Tunis Mills, Talbot County

TUNIS MILLS HANGING TREE ..... There is a tree in the Tunis Mills area known as “the hanging tree” due to its abnormal shape. The locals tell that it is believed that slaves were hanged from this tree or that it was the site of lynchings. Area residents tell of a legend that says when you sit under the tree with your car off, you will begin to hear and see the dead. It has been reported that some hear the bodies drop onto the car from the horizontal branch of the tree. True of false, the Tunis Mills hanging tree is a favorite of ghost hunters and those intrigued by hauntings.

Mindie Burgoyne takes readers on a spine-tingling journey as she recounts the grisly events at the Cosden Murder Farm and the infamous legend of Patty Cannon.
